Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder that is widespread throughout the world, including Azerbaijan. Regular blood transfusion must be done to carriers of this disease. When blood is not transfused regularly, patients develop cardiovascular failure, liver disease and endocrine disorders, and in some cases, it results in death. The main cause of the disease is the marriage of people related by blood. Therefore, constant awareness-raising work is carried out, people related by blood are sent to various blood tests before marriage in order to prevent the spread of this disease in our country.
Patients with thalassemia are always covered by state care in our country, and as a result, the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On state care for persons with hemophilia and thalassemia inherited blood disorders" has been adopted. In addition, "Thalassemia Center" has been built and put into operation for children with thalassemia.
Every year, May 8 is commemorated in our country as World Thalassemia Day. In this regard, "Matanat A" held, as every year, a blood donation campaign under the slogan "Give blood, save life!". The main purpose of the blood donation campaign is to support children and adolescents suffering from inherited blood disorders such as hemophilia, thalassemia and leukemia, and to meet their blood needs, at least in part.
Employees of the Dry Building Mixes Plant, new AGDAG Gypsum Plant, Concrete Additives Plant, ROKOL Paint Plant, Gypsum Masonry Block Plant, which are part of Matanat A Group of Companies, took an active part in the blood donation campaign.
The campaign was held at the Central Blood Bank of the Scientific Research Hematology and Transphysiology Institute of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Each donor's condition was checked in advance by a special medical team, hematologists of the Central Blood Bank, and then blood was donated. The blood collected during the campaign will be used to treat children suffering from thalassemia.
In general, Matanat A always implements a series of Corporate Social Responsibility projects in different directions, Elkhan Bashirov, head of the company, is proud to constantly focus on the disabled people and orphans, Karabakh war veterans and people suffering from various diseases as a continuation of the state's charitable mission.
